This body of work is influenced by nature; more specifically, the things we cannot easily see due to their microscopic scale or simply neglect to focus our attention on. While not meant to be directly representational, the work is heavily influenced by forms that exist all around us such as slime mould, fungi, spores, seeds, radiolarians, insect eggs and mycelial networks. Inspired by the work of biologist Ernst Haeckel from the 1850’s as well as present day macro photography, I am endlessly fascinated by the almost otherworldly beauty that exists within this space. This work is my attempt to pay homage to the beauty that surrounds us - the gift of colour and form within the hidden worlds beneath our feet, a fantastical journey into our hidden nature.
