Daniel Shimout is an artist based in Salliq (Coral Harbour), NU, where he was born and raised. He has been carving since his teenage years, following in the footsteps of many artists in his family. Shimout’s unique fusion of realism and fantasy creates original and extraordinary sculptures, many of which focus on Inuit legends and traditional life. He is a versatile artist that incorporates a variety of media in his sculptures to create works with texture and depth. Shimout has had several gallery and museum exhibitions, with his first solo exhibition in 2014 at Feheley Fine Arts in Toronto, ON.
