Gjoa Haven // Uqsuqtuuq PLACE OF PLENTIFUL BLUBBER Gjoa Haven is located on the southeast coast of King William Island in the Kitikmeot region, at the heart of the Northwest Passage. Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen founded the settlement of ‘Gjøahavn’ in 1903, making it a tourist destination for fans of arctic history. The local Nattilik Inuit artists are known for their expressive shamanic sculptures carved from whale bone, local stone, as well as finely sewn clothing.
