Danish Shaman Bronze by Abraham Anghik Ruben 7/9

Abraham Anghik Ruben

Paulatuk, NT

$30,000.00

The inspiration behind this sculpture comes from an ancient Danish
pictograph found in Northern Denmark. The pictograph depicts a man
transforming into a hawk, and the transformation may be interpreted
as a shaman’s transformation. In front of the sculpture is a bird-man
transformation with shamanic elements of spirits animals such as birds
and fish in a migratory flight. On the backside of the sculpture, we
have a representation of a Viking as handed down through their myths,
legends, and images, and engaged in their daily chores as they would
have been 1,000 years ago as they ventured into the new world.
This piece is a bronze version of the 2013 stone carving of the same
name, which is featured in the Abraham Anghik Ruben exhibition upstairs.
