From a terracotta figurine found in Egypt dated to the 3rd century BC. The hair, parted in the middle, is arranged in six ‘slices’ converging low at the nape of neck into a braided chignon pinned to the back of the head. This is the so-called “melon coiffure” which was extremely popular in the Hellenistic period. Terracotta replica on marble base.
