The Impurity Necklace features a sterling silver or bronze bar, with a twist… the stamped text reads “impurity.”

The necklace is reversible. You can choose to keep the text close to your heart – as a symbol of empowerment just for you or reveal the message to initiate conversations on sexuality and gender.

This necklace is inspired by the Impurity Ring series, which refers to and deconstructs the concept of purity rings — a cultural phenomenon and symbol of abstinence. The sterling silver designs alter the text or iconography of purity rings, like a budding rose modified to a blossoming vulva-like version or stamped text which reads “impurity” instead of “purity.” The intent is to question the idea of purity in relation to sexuality and the body, and encourage everyday conversations and empowerment.
