Old Anvil Elm Peppermill

$300.00

This is a mill of elm, and the design was inspired by a video of an ancient anvil and hammer being restored. The old anvil was a pyramid shape with a long point that was pounded into a hole in a tree stump. The flat side was used as the anvil.

I saw two anvils, end to end, as a peppermill, and a piece shaped like the hammer as the grinder lid. The flat sides provided a space for some pyrography decoration. The inside of the mill is turned in an hourglass shape to match the exterior.

This was a very difficult piece to make, as it was first one of this style and presented special challenges for hollowing.

The mechanism in this piece is stainless steel
