Osage orange is found in the US Midwest, where its very thorny branches is often used to plant hedges. It is also known as hedge apple and the wood was used by native tribes to make bows.  As a turning wood, it can be difficult, as it is very hard when try and tends to chip. But it takes on a beautiful polish when finished properly.

This mill has walnut combined with the osage, and a little cap of ebony, with carved walnut feet.
