A pepper mill does not have to be ordinary, and there is no reason why it should not be viewed as an art object on a finely set dinner table.
This one is made of pear from Manitoba, and the wood cracked badly as it dried. But that misfortune presents an opportunity to be creative, so on the opposite side the lid is enhanced with a walnut wedge. The side shown reveals the incredible color and grain pattern of this beautiful “firewood”.
Like all my peppermills, the inside is turned to match the form of the outside. And this mill has carved arched feet and some delicate texturing on the walnut portions.
It has a matte finish, with a light duty ceramic mechanism.
Pear and walnut, 11” tall.
