Kinngait
HIGH MOUNTAIN
Once known as Cape Dorset, residents voted to adopt an Inuktitut name in December of 2019. Located on an island off the southwest edge of Baffin Island in Nunavut and home to the Kenojuak Cultural Centre and Print Shop, Kinngait is internationally known for its arts in several forms including stone carving in serpentine and marble. An annual print release out of the West Baffin Eskimo Cooperative is eagerly awaited by collectors worldwide. Although there have been many master artists in Kinngait, Kenojuak Ashevak was the most famous Inuit artist in the world.
