This is local wood, from a neighbor’s tree. It was taken down several years ago and I have been letting it dry completely before turning it.

I saw the piece in my mind exactly as this before I made it. I like contrast, and the beautifully grained ash is such a nice contrast with the walnut, which has the added feature of a textured band and burn lines. It sits on four little feet.

This piece has a top that simply pulls off for filling and presses back on again. The mechanism is high end ceramic  which would also be suitable for salt.
